How to Treat Irritated Scalp

Have you ever noticed irritation, itchiness, or dryness of your scalp? Most of us have experienced this at least once before. An irritated scalp can be caused by a number of different things which we will explore as well as discuss remedies to relieve your scalp.

Dryness

A dry scalp is not uncommon. When your scalp is dry, it causes you to by itchy and flaky. This is similar to when your skin gets dry from lack of hydration and you notice your arms and legs get itchy. Well when our skin gets itchy what do we do? Put on lotion. Our scalp also needs to stay hydrated and there are many reasons why you might be experiencing dry scalp.

Shampooing too often can cause dry scalp. Shampooing strips and cleans the hair and scalp of natural oils. Your hair needs these oils so if you shampoo too often, your hair and scalp will become dry. On the other side of things, not shampooing enough can cause your scalp to be itchy. It’s important to not shampoo too often but don’t go overboard because all those natural oils will build up and cause irritation.

Dry scalp can also be caused by different skin conditions. Psoriasis is a common skin condition that can cause flaking and irritation on your scalp.

The weather is also another factor that can cause dry scalp. During the colder fall and winter months everything is more dry and people often experience more dryness of their hair and scalp
Our Alpha Hydroxy Fruit Acid Conditioning Mud Mask is great for helping hydrate the hair and scalp and will reduce flakiness is just 30 days of use.

Dandruff

Dandruff is another factor that causes an irritated scalp. Dandruff is very common and occurs when the scalp sheds dead skin cells faster than normal. Researchers don’t know exactly what causes this but some potential causes of dandruff are seborrheic dermatitis, oily scalp, and sensitivity to hair products.
Exfoliating your scalp is important when treating dandruff. Our Activated Charcoal + Peppermint + Exfoliating Jojoba Pearls Shampoo is perfect to exfoliate and soothe your scalp. When you have dandruff, the best thing to do is to clean away the flakes and debris as much as possible. This exfoliating shampoo contains jojoba pearls to help remove the flakes from your scalp.

Product build up

Product build up is when the hair products that you use build up and sit on your scalp in between washes. This can cause a lot of itchiness and irritation. The shampoos, conditioners, oils, styling creams, and gels that you use need to be fully rinsed from your hair when you wash it. Failure to do so can result in product build up. Also, not washing your hair often enough causes product to sit on your head for a period of time and build up in between your washes.

The Activated Charcoal + Peppermint + Exfoliating Jojoba Pearls Shampoo also helps to remove product build up with the jojoba pearls gently scrubbing away. The Stimulating Silicone Scalp Brush & Massager also does wonders to remove product build up from your scalp. Simply gently press to the scalp and massage in circular motions, working out the build up.
